We are invited to explore the possibility of living judgment-free. According to Almine, it brings us into a less dense reality of more lightness and grace. Almine states that value judgments are the reason for discomfort and opposition we experience. If we look closely at our lives, we can see the connection between harboring judgmental attitudes and experiencing hardships and suffering. If we are honest with ourselves, we can admit that none of us, without exception, have ever felt comfortable and at peace when we judge or are judged by others.

Judgment can have a variety of expressions such as verbal attack, scolding, accusations and condemning. When we were children, most of us had painful experiences of being punished by our parents. We felt that it was against our true nature – even if misunderstandings and miscommunication had to be cleared, there had to be more effective ways to achieve this than the “traditional” nagging, scolding and punishment, using emotional pressure and, in some cases, physical punishment. The idea was to change our behavior by emotional and physical force, because it was judged as “wrong.”

Some people in the world feel it is their “mission” to punish the “unrighteousness” and to restore “justice,” but in fact, their goal is to impose their value system on the whole world. They think that only their value systems are “right,” those who disagree with them are “wrong,” and they should force those who are “wrong” to change, or make them feel as bad as possible if they refuse to submit and obey.

Many parents honestly admit that they never feel good about punishing their children but they do it because it is expected by public opinion. They want to be “good parents” in other people’s eyes. We understand that raising children is a challenging task that requires exceptional communication skills. It is easier for some parents to spank children than to speak to their hearts. In every situation, even the most challenging ones, it is always possible to find a solution. It is important for parents to understand that children’s feelings and desires have value. Even very small children are ancient souls that express ageless wisdom. They can feel when they are treated as equals, and respond naturally with mutual respect. If they are treated as “stupid kids” that must worship and obey their parents, they feel the unnaturalness of this treatment and try to make their parents see their value, which is interpreted as deviant behavior that needs to be punished.

The challenge of Reconciling Opposites means stepping beyond dividing things into “right” and “wrong.” Then nothing is worthy of judgment and punishment. The only thing that remains is clarity of communication. Communication is the art of speaking and listening. Everyone, without exception, is worthy of being listened to, even the smallest of children. And true communication is based on recognition of the equal value of all. Judgment implies that something may be “wrong” with someone, and that they may be “unworthy.” If there is no “wrong,” then there is no reason for judgment and condemnation. It is not a matter of “right” and “wrong.” It is a matter of diversity. We are all different. If someone is different from us, and they are our child, family member or colleague, then we learn how to coexist together, with mutual respect to each others’ differences. People feel that they are respected by us – they feel it immediately in our presence, even if we do not say a word. When we talk to them, it does not matter what we say – they feel our loving respect in the frequency of our voice, and they respond accordingly. It is very easy to respect others when we live beyond judgment. And they will inevitably mirror their respect back to us.
